Ex-CPhO Keith Ridge appointed non-exec director of NICE

Dr Keith Ridge CBE FRPharmS has been appointed as a non-executive director of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence for four years, with effect from 1 July.

The appointment involves a time commitment of two to three days per month and is remunerated at a rate of £7,883 per year. Such appointments are made on merit, and in accordance with the Cabinet Office Code of Governance for Public Appointments.   

Dr Ridge was the chief pharmaceutical officer for England from 2006 until he retired in 2022. During his time as CPhO, among other things, he worked to establish clinical pharmacy practice in general practices and helped  transform pharmacy professional education and training.

Before taking on the role of CPhO he was director of pharmacy at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.

Since retiring he has remained active in pharmacy politics and is an occasional contributor to Pharmacy Magazine.
